Introduction

The Sioplas process is a two-step method of producing silane-crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation: a catalyst masterbatch is first compounded with silane-grafted polyethylene, then extruded onto the conductor and cured in a warm water or steam bath. It is widely chosen for LV power and building wire because it delivers XLPE performance at lower capital cost than continuous vulcanisation lines.

Sai Extrumech's flagship triple-layer Sioplas line applies conductor screen, insulation and outer layers in a single pass, with precise dosing of the catalyst masterbatch, temperature-zoned barrels to prevent premature crosslinking (scorch), and a controlled-residence-time screw at 20:1–24:1 L/D. A post-extrusion curing bath completes the moisture cure to achieve full crosslink density and the thermal and mechanical properties of XLPE.
