What Is an Extrusion Machine?
An extrusion machine melts a polymer compound and forces it through a die to form a continuous product — insulation and sheathing on a cable, or the wall of a pipe or tube. A complete extrusion line combines the extruder with a crosshead, cooling trough, haul-off and take-up. The extruder screw and its L/D ratio, the crosshead geometry and the line control together determine output rate, melt quality and finished product consistency.
